Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to visit Split?
September is often considered the best month — summer warmth, empty beaches, low prices. June and May are also excellent. July–August is peak season: hottest, most crowded and most expensive.
How many days do I need in Split?
2–3 days covers the city itself well. Allow 5–7 days if you want to add island day trips or day trips to national parks. A week or more gives you time to properly explore the region.
Do I need a car in Split?
Not for the city itself — it's entirely walkable. For day trips to Plitvice, Velebit and Omiš a car is very useful. Islands are best reached by ferry; most island towns are walkable on arrival.
Is Split expensive?
It varies significantly by season. In shoulder season (May/June/September) Split is very good value compared to Western Europe. In peak July–August prices are closer to western European levels, especially for accommodation.
Is Split suitable for families with children?
Absolutely. Croatia is very family-friendly — children are welcomed everywhere. The shallow sandy beach at Bačvice is perfect for young children. The palace is endlessly fascinating for older kids, and island day trips are great fun for all ages.
Is Split accessible for visitors with mobility needs?
The Riva and much of the seafront are fully accessible. The Old Town has cobbled streets which can be challenging for wheelchairs, but accessible routes have been mapped. The main ferry routes have wheelchair boarding. Contact us for a detailed accessibility guide.
